RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — To assist those impacted by the recent tornadoes that struck Central Virginia, Altria gave the American Red Cross a generous donation Friday.
8News was there for the check presentation.
“We are very proud today to present the Virginia chapter of the American Red Cross a check for $50,000 to go to support efforts to help in Virginia, and we commend all you’ve done so far and all you’ll continue to do to respond to these storms,” said Charlie Agee, Altria’s Director of Corporate Contributions and Community Relations.
With today’s check presentation, Altria enabled Red Cross volunteers to continue their work as cleanup efforts continue across the commonwealth in communities devastated by las week’s deadly storms.
“The only hope they had was that the Red Cross was there to assist them, to provide them with shelter and food and water if needed,” Governor Terry McAullife said. “I can’t thank them enough.”
The Red Cross says every time they open a shelter or provide food, water and clothing during a disaster, their resources become depleted, and that now is the time to replenish before the next storm strikes.
“It’s essential that people come forward and give us the resources so that we can, in turn, provide the service to those who experience this trauma,” said Reggie Gordon, CEO for American Red Cross of Virginia.
