The Food Bank for Westchester received the donation to help fund its Emergency Food Distribution Program.
The Food Bank for Westchester is a proud recipient of a generous $65,000 donation from Swiss Re in support of its Emergency Food Distribution Program. The donation was a result of Swiss Re employees choosing the Food Bank as its 2016 Charity of the Year, a partnership that they kicked-off at a breakfast last month. The Food Bank is the backbone of the county’s emergency food network. It works with local hunger relief agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, emergency shelters, and daycare and senior-care facilities to provide the greatest amount of food possible for its neighbors in need. Last year, the Food Bank distributed over 7.5 million pounds of food, and this year they are on track to provide more than 8 million pounds. For over 25 years, the Food Bank for Westchester (FB4W) has led the fight against hunger in Westchester County, serving 300 frontline programs that provide food directly to the 200,000 county residents who are hungry or food insecure. FB4W supplies 95% of all food distributed annually across the region’s food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and daycare and residential programs – delivering over 6.3 million meals to people in need just last year. FB4W’s collaboration with major retailers and corporations, and its expertise in food procurement, storage, and distribution, turns every $1 donated into $4 worth of fresh food provided for our hungry neighbors in Westchester County.
