Home of the Innocents gets a boost to help thousands of local children in need.

On Wednesday, the Rite Aid Foundation donated $12,500 to the organization. It’s part of the drugstore chain’s “Big Hearts Give Challenge,” which runs through February.

Home of the Innocents helps thousands of children every year who are medically fragile, or have been abused or neglected.

“We operate a big medical clinic for kids living in poverty, homeless children, children who are refugees, kids with autism. So it’s just a wonderful level of support for the mission that we have and makes our work possible,” said Gordon Brown, President for the Home of the Innocents.

Rite Aid customers are also invited to take part in its “Kid Cents” program.

Purchases are rounded up to the nearest dollar, with the extra change going to charities, including Home of the Innocents.
