Johor Sultan visits cancer hospital in Canada

Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar visited the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC) during his four-day visit to British Columbia, Canada recently.

Sultan Ibrahim was invited by the hospital’s administration to unveil a memorial plaque to mark the visit.

The 300-bed hospital that opened in 2008 is the first hospital in western Canada to have a cancer centre integrated into its design.

Sultan Ibrahim was briefed on the centre’s regional services, and its state-of-the-art cancer research, control and treatment facilities.

The Ruler said he was particularly attracted to the ARHCC’s education and liaison system for its community-based cancer control programmes.

Cancer care and treatment is an issue close to Sultan Ibrahim’s heart. His third son, Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil, the Tunku Laksamana of Johor, died of liver cancer in December last year.

The Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation, which helps patients in need of financial aid and access to treatment, was set up by the Johor Royal Family in his memory.

Sultan Ibrahim recently donated RM2.3mil for the purchase of a CT scanner for Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Baru.
