Over $100,000 donated to youth mental health education!

Plutus Payroll and Tech Pilot Fund recently donated over $100,000 to batyr – a for purpose organisation that focuses on preventative education in the area of youth mental health.

Supporting mental health issues in kids before they happen hits close to home for many of us at Plutus and Tech Pilot Fund, and especially so for CEO Simon Anquetil as a father to a 13 year old son.

Simon first met Sebastian Robertson, Founder and Chairman of batyr, at high school and remembers his first impressions of Seb as being one of those people destined for great things. There were no surprises then, when Simon heard about the amazing work batyr has been doing for youth mental health education in Australia.

For over a decade, batyr has provided programs that train young people to speak about their personal experience with mental health and start a conversation in their community. They then take these speakers into schools, universities and corporate arenas to share their experience and engage, educate and empower the audience to know when to reach out to the excellent support services available in Australia.

It’s an initiative Plutus Payroll was keen to get behind, so we teamed up with batyr to raise money for the cause over the three Plutus EOFY parties that happened across the east coast of Australia in May and June.

Plutus Payroll matched every donation we raised at the events, dollar for dollar, and auctioned off various items generously donated from our staff, networks and supporters each night.

In the end, we managed to raise $7,355 for the batyr organisation from direct fundraising at our events, so we’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who contributed on the night!

However, this year alone batyr will run 150 programs, across 100 schools in QLD, NSW, ACT & VIC and train 110 young people to learn how to share their story. By the end of 2016 batyr hopes to have reached over 58,000 young people through their programs, since inception in 2011.

Making sure batyr can get around the country to spend important one on one time with the youth of Australia is critical to the success of their work – but involves significant costs.

Which is why Tech Pilot Fund and Plutus Payroll stepped in to add $100,000 of their own funds to the donation pool.

We wish batyr all the best in continuing the excellent work they’re doing around the country.
